Mr. Albert Harry “Abby” Hamby, 84, of Hagerstown, died Saturday evening, August 5, 2017, at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore. He was the husband of the late Charlotte Belle “Rita” Robinson Hamby, his wife of 51 years, who died May 3, 2010.
Born August 3, 1933, in Clear Spring, he was a son of the late David Harry and Lela Irene Bartles Hamby.
Mr. Hamby served in the United States Army. He retired from General Motors Parts Division, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
He was a member of American Legion, Joseph C. Herbert Post 222, Clear Spring, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 378, and the Wilson Ruritan Club, both of Hagerstown.
Mr. Hamby is survived by his children, Dennis T. Hamby and friend, Angie D. Parker, of Sterling, Virginia, Brian K. Hamby and wife, Marilyn J., of Maugansville, Gregory L. Hamby and friend, Linda M. Hovermale, of Big Pool, and Kimberly S. Lopp and husband, Charles D., of Hagerstown; a grandson, Todd R. Brennan; sisters, Anna Irene Snook and Lela Mae Hendershot, both of Clear Spring, and Carolyn Jean Shockey of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wayne David Hamby and siblings, David Lee and Kenneth Eugene Hamby, and Mary Jane Hoffman.
The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. with Rev. M. David Grove officiating. Interment with honors by American Legion, Joseph C. Herbert Post 222 will follow in Broadfording Church Cemetery, Hagerstown.
