Cyriel Beechwood “Bub” Forsythe, 93, of Hagerstown, went to be with the home Lord Friday, October 28, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Anna Marie “Jane” Baker Forsythe, his wife of 60 years who preceded him in death in 2001.
Born April 21, 1918, in Halfway, he was a son of the late Cushen A. and Edna M. Houser Forsythe.
He served in the United States Army from April 1941 to October 1945. He was a Staff Sergeant of Company H, 397 Infantry, 100th Division. He received a purple heart, bronze star, and two good conduct medals, among several others. Prior to shipping out, he was active in the Army War Shows that traveled across the United States.
Bub worked 48 years for Henry A. Bester Florist, retiring in 1986. He also enjoyed working with his gardens at home, growing and selling the vegetables he grew.
He was of the Protestant Faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Ellen M. Fahey of Hagerstown, Cheryl A. Stoneberger of Sharpsburg, and Lora J. Forsythe and Anna M. Forsythe-Crist, both of Hagerstown; a son, Allyn C. Forsythe of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, Mr. Forsythe was preceded in death by his grandson Joshua A. Forsythe, and brothers Paul A. and Lloyd C. Forsyth.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean P. Pryor will officiate. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. A Military Graveside service will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42, Hagerstown.
