Elizabeth “Beth” Knecht Armel passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015, at home after a brave battle with cancer. She was the wife of Michael V. Armel, her most devoted husband of 34 years.
Beth was born on May 4, 1946 in Newark, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Selma Knecht, whose loving arms she is in once again. She graduated from West Orange (NJ) High School and lived in Hagerstown, Maryland for the last 45 years. A masterful sales person and deal-closer, she spent her 21-year career at Blaine Window Hardware as a leader in national sales. A loving caregiver to her parents, Beth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her many friends and extended family, both near and far.
Beth was a member of Congregation B’Nai Abraham for most of her years in Hagerstown. She was proud of recently helping to develop a new graphic for the synagogue web site. She had served in the temple sisterhood. Beth also enjoyed teaching Sunday School when her daughter was young.
Besides her husband, Beth is survived by her loving daughter Rebecca (Dornbusch) Bittle and husband Christopher; and her granddaughter, Dory Elizabeth Bittle.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown is handling the arrangements. A graveside service will on Sunday, March 29, at 1:00 PM, at B’Nai Abraham Cemetery, 17517 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown. A memorial service will follow at Congregation B’Nai Abraham, 53 East Baltimore Street, Hagerstown, at 2 PM. Rabbi Ariel D. Plost and Rabbi Fred Raskind will officiate services. A reception to celebrate Beth’s life will follow the memorial services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Beth’s name to Congregation B’Nai Abraham, 49 East Baltimore Street, Hagerstown 21740; or to “Doey’s House” in care of Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742
