Mrs. Gayl Gerber Weiss, 91, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Jupiter Medical Center Pavilion/Hospice of Palm Beach County, Florida. She was the wife of the late Arthur A. Weiss, who preceded her in death on April 22, 2015.
Gayl was born September 6, 1924 in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was the daughter of Max and Rose Greenwald Gerber. A member of the Hagerstown High School Class of 1942, Gayl worked at the Herald Mail upon graduation.
After marrying her husband, Arthur on July 3, 1949, she supported him in the growth of the family business, H.A.Weiss and Sons, Inc., Hagerstown. Gayl and Arthur raised three children, and after building a successful life and career together, became snowbirds, and eventually relocated full time to Jupiter, Florida. Gayl and Art celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July, 2014, surrounded by their loving family and friends.
When Arthur died, Gayl continued to live independently and happily at Allegro Senior Living Community in Jupiter, Florida.
Shr is survived by her three children Marvin Weiss and wife Judy of San Diego, California, Robin Zabel of Frederick, Maryland , and Mitchell Weiss and wife Mary of Knoxville, Tennessee; and six grandchildren, Emily and Max Weiss, Ian Zabel, Becca Zabel Krouse and husband Nick, and Rachel and Megan Weiss.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Gerber, a B-17 Pilot in the 8th Air Force, who died in May, 1944, in a daytime bombing mission over Germany.
Gayl was extremely fond of her grandchildren, with whom she has a loving and lasting bond.
The funeral service will be Friday, March 18, at 11:00 AM, at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown. Rabbi Ariel D. Plost will officiate. Interment will follow in B’Nai Abraham Cemetery, Halfway.
The omission of flowers is requested.
