Joseph Franklin "Alex" Harrison, Jr.

Mr. Joseph Franklin Harrison, Jr., 75 of Hagerstown, and known by many as "Alex", died Wednesday afternoon, April 23, 2025, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Barbara Ann Eichelberger Harrison, his wife of 38 years.

Born May 29, 1949 , in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Joseph Franklin, Sr., and Margaret Elizabeth Crum Harrison. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1967.

Alex was a printer by trade. He worked the early portion of his career in Rockville, and finished worked with Phoenix Color, Hagerstown.

He was baptized at All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick.

Alex was always curious about life and therefore was very active. There were many facets to life he explored. He enjoyed cooking and may best be remembered for his Teriyaki Chicken and Potato Salad. He had a professional flair for photography and was often asked to photograph and record such events as weddings. He could be found reading, mostly enjoying Science Fiction or mysteries, or listening to music, anything from Jerry Jeff Walker to the Brandenburg Concertos. Alex was an avid gardener. Upon being asked about plants, he could call the plant by its common and scientific names.

Alex and his wife shared some interests. Enjoying their Alfa Romeo prompted a yearly trek cross country to Italian Car Shows in California. The couple also had an appreciation for wine. They would often enjoy local wineries and wine tastings.

Alex, besides his wife, is survived by his son Aubrey Harrison; and step-daughter Susan Wright and spouse Ken of Waynesboro; by siblings Victoria Buettner and husband Robert of West Virginia, and Paul T. Harrison and spouse Sina of Texas; as well as several aunts and uncles, especially Charles and Nancy Crum of Frederick; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Elizabeth Feightner, and brother James Stanley Harrison.

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is assisting the family with private arrangements.
