Peter Bryan

Mr. Peter Francis “Pete” Bryan, 77, of Hagerstown, died late Tuesday afternoon, June 28, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. He was the husband of the late Virginia T. “Ginger” Bryan, who preceded him in death on June 5, 2007.

Born October 15, 1933, in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Daniel Joseph and Alva Jane Pettigrew Bryan.

Mr. Bryan graduated Friends School of Baltimore in 1951; and attended Johns Hopkins University. He was a United States Army Veteran serving with the Army Signal Corp in Germany.

He retired in 1994 as Treasurer of Cannon Shoe Company, and recently celebrated 15 years of service with H&R Block, both of Hagerstown.

Mr. Bryan was a member of Hagerstown Rotary Club #5260, as well as Fountain Head Country Club. He enjoyed and supported local culture by being a member of the Washington County Historical Society, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. He was formerly a volunteer with SCORE, Chapter 539, Hagerstown; and former member of the Assembly and the Nine and Ninety Clubs, both of Hagerstown.

Surviving is his daughter, Jennifer A. Bryan of Odenton; his brother, James A. Bryan and wife Marge of Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by his sister Jane Bryan Farnen, who died in 2007.

Friends may call at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Saturday, July 2, beginning at 9:30 AM, until time of service at 10:30 AM. The Rev. James Nirappel of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Hagerstown, will offer prayers. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
