Mr. Rodger Frederick Bowers, 78, of Hagerstown, passed away surrounded by his family early Saturday evening, December 28, 2024, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. He is the husband of Mrs. Andrea Jean Hedges Bowers, his wife of 50 years.
Born July 15, 1946, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Jack Alvin and Ella Geraldine McAllen Bowers. He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1964.
“Rodge” as he was fondly known as to family and friends operated the Greyhound Bus Terminal with his father until 1991. The station hosted three different bus lines during the years of service and was proud to have aided in the transport of our military service personnel beginning with World War II. Following the terminal’s closing, Rodge proudly joined his brother at Bowers Insurance Agency, Hagerstown, until he finally retired to enjoy a quieter life with his family.
He was a member of Christ Reformed Church, Hagerstown.
Rodger had a passion for American History and a special fondness for Civil War Preservation.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children Justin S. Bowers of Hagerstown and Whitney J. Sylvester and husband Denero of Williamsport; his grandchildren Rachael and Luna Sylvester; and great grandchild Lilith, all three of Williamsport; as well as his siblings Donald C. Bowers and wife Jackie of Hagerstown, and Susan C. Bowers Bonebrake and husband Denny of Greencastle, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his best friend, Dwight Taylor of Salisbury.
Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is assisting the family with arrangements. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 South Potomac Street, Hagerstown. Family and friends planning to attend will assemble inside the main gate for a procession to the gravesite moments prior to 1:00 PM.
